Lavaudieu, the "valley of God", is listed one of the most beautiful villages of France with a rich architectural heritage. Once a fort, it is nestled in a small peaceful wooded valley, cut right across by the Senouire river and its stone bridge.

Saint Robert who had founded the town of La Chaise-Dieu built in 1057 an abbey where the Benedictine nuns lived until the French Revolution.

In the church Saint André, you will admire the collection of mural frescoes dating from the 14th century Italian school. They present the Passion of Christ as well as an allegory of the Black Death.

The cloister is the only one in the region of Auvergne which has been preserved : its columns hold up arches, sculpted capitals and an oak-wooden gallery.

You may have a walk in the narrow streets of the village, along the wine growers' homes up to the square adorned with a wrought-iron cross. Don't forget to visit the Museum of Popular Art and Traditions.

In the surroundings, you may visit the village of Blesle, the abbey-church of La Chaise-Dieu and the Lace Museum (Hotel de la Dentelle) in Brioude.

The villages in the Brivadois area are a testimony to the country world and its farms : pigeon houses, lime kilns, fountains and mills draw the outlines of the region landscape, a priviledged site of the Norman art.

Not far from Lavaudieu, the fortified castle of Domeyrat, the church of Javaugues and the picturesque village of Vieille-Brioude are expecting you.
Around Lavaudieu, in the middle of this protected nature, a lot of activities are available.

The rambling and hiking paths are numerous, especially the wellknown paths of Siantago de Compostela.
9 mountain bike rounds and many riding schools are at your disposal.

The Cézallier Safary Park is just near Brioude.

Fishing is also possible at 0,2 kilometers from Le Colombier where there is a little lake. The Allier river has been well equipped for canoeing and other river water sports.

You will also find a climbing site 5 minutes from Lavaudieu.

Pascal Coltri will be very pleased to give you information for your visits and activities in the region.
